Are you ever in wonder and awe of Mother Nature?
Do you experience a sigh of contentment and a feeling of relief upon your first step into nature's oneness?
Do you receive a sense of belonging when in a majestic forest, air filled with the scent of pine, the sound of dried pine needles beneath your feet, and hearing the wind whisper tales to the trees of recent travels and faraway places?
When at a beach do enjoy the sight of the blue waters, the taste of the salt in the air, the feeling of warmth from the sun upon your face, the cleansing feeling of the breeze that greets you, the touch of a rock or pebble that brings you a sense of belonging or the sound of thundering waves and cries from seagulls flying over the whole scene?
When was the last time you were truly aware?
When was the last time you were amazed?
All one needs, to rediscover the mysteries of nature, is to walk hand-in-hand with a child. A child sees wonderment in everything, big or small, living or not, ordinary or new. There is no need to teach, only to experience all of nature through the eye of a child. Go ahead and lay under a tree and watch the leaves wave to you. Go out in the darkness of night and listen to the rhythmic chirping of a cricket or the resonate call of a frog, and with a flashlight, see if you and your child can locate them in their natural places within this elegantly perfect choir.
These are places where I feel most at home, where I can be me, where I am reminded that I am at one with all. Sharing these types of adventures with children is one of the most incredibly fulfilling experiences one can have. I hope to be able to share some of my past experiences, offer ideas for an all inclusive curricula within the natural sciences, provide information of current community events or activities that explore nature, tell stories from different cultures that enlighten us to different philosophies in viewing the natural world, and much more. The future of our planet lay in the hands of our children. They are ~ earth's hope.
Remember to try everyday to find one thing that amazes you!
